Iron Man 2’s story will go beyond the plot of the movie

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 0 views

We’ll be seeing more of Sega’s follow-up to the poorly received 2008 super hero title Iron Man during the company’s Comic-Con 2009 presentation — but a press release just dropped some early details for the metal-suited sequel. Most intriguingly, the presser reveals that Iron Man 2 won’t just follow the plot of the upcoming film, but will include a bit of inspiration from the comics as well. (We call this “getting the Spider-Man treatment.”) Other interesting tidbits: The game’s story will be penned by Invincible Iron Man and Uncanny X-Men writer Matt Fraction (and his loyal sidekick, Dave Percentile!), and will feature completely revamped controls. Hopefully this time around, Tony Stark’s movement controls won’t make it feel like he’s drunk all the time. Oh! Ooooh. This is awkward .

Bionic Commando Rearmed Trophies are almost here

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 0 views

Hey, remember Bionic Commando Rearmed ? Probably not, seeing as it came out almost a year ago. It was a pretty decent remake of the NES classic. Only one problem — it didn’t have Trophies. Still, Capcom promised they’d patch them in . Then they canceled that promise. Then they promised again . Now, finally, we’ve been told via the company’s official Twitter account that the Trophy patch has been approved for the US, with Europe scheduled to be approved in the next few days. The upshot of which is that you “may” be getting your long-awaited Trophies within the next ” 7 to 10 days.” We’re pretty sure most of you will have moved on by now, but it’s the thought that counts

Integrated Gmail simplifies the view for minimalists and Google junkies alike

If there’s a Gmail equivalent of adding a zillion toolbars to your browser, then I’m the poster boy. I’ve added so many lab features and gadgets that my Gmail functions rather… differently. But I’m all about simplifying, and the Firefox add-on Integrated Gmail does just that while also giving you a window into more Google services in a top-down view. The pic above shows you “minimalist” mode and is an incredibly slimmed-down version of Gmail, Reader and Calendar. Integrated Gmail also supports custom URLs and Gadgets like Remember the Milk, so you’re not just stuck with Google stuff like Picasa, Notebook, etc. Be aware that this does a lot of fancy Javascript work to make things happen, so a few Labs features will cause conflicts. I had enabled the ability to move nav columns around, which it didn’t like. Also, even in settings you’ll see Reader, Calendar, etc.

O2 launches iPhone app contest

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 3 views

O2 is hoping to innovate its way to the top of the market once rivals are allowed to sell the iPhone, and has ?10,000 to give to the best O2-themed iPhone app. If you’re a software developer thinking about getting into programming for Apple’s popular iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, give O2 a call – the mobile provider is offering ?10,000 to the creator of the best app in its “ App Showdown ” contest. As reported over on V3.co.uk , the UK arm of mobile giant O2 is running a contest throughout August which looks to introduce a neat, preferably O2-themed application into the iPhone marketplace. With suggestions on the official site ranging from “ an interactive O2 coverage map ” - which would appear to be manageable as a Google Maps mashup – to “ an app that records any sleep-talking you do ,” and the promise that contestants are “ free to enter any kind of iPhone app you like ” there’s certainly scope for innovation. That said, O2 is putting heavy emphasis on apps which promote its services or improve the lot of its customers specifically, stating that the “ key criteria for the winner will be an app that can help build a lasting relationship between O2 and its iPhone customers. ” Accordingly, suggestions which tie the company’s existing offerings – such as a package which automatically checks the status of your O2 wired broadband connection, or syncs the iPhone to the company’s Joggler device – are the most likely to walk away with the prize. The move comes ahead of O2’s exclusivity deal with Apple expiring, and it’s a clear sign that the company is attempting to innovate its way to the top of the pile: when rival mobile providers have the ability to compete on price with iPhone packages, O2 will have either perform some major trimming on its margins or offer something unique to the market. The competition is open to all UK residents aged over 18 and with an Apple Developer Program Portal account with at least 95 free device slots for the use of competition judges – interestingly, made up of the company’s iPhone customers rather than employees. Does the thought of a ?10,000 top prize get your head swimming with O2-themed ideas for iPhone apps, or are do you think that’s something of a cheap price for the application that’s likely to keep O2 on the top of the iPhone pile
