PSP version of Myst hitting PlayStation Network July 16

Saturday, July 11th, 2009 1 views

We know you’ve probably bought Myst eight or nine times by this point, but we thought you’d still like to know that a new iteration will soon be available — this time, for the PSP. Hoplite Research, who collaborated with the adventure game’s original developer Cyan Worlds to put the game on DS in December 2007, is dropping the game on the PlayStation Network next Thursday. Much like the DS version, the PSP port will contain all the Myst non-action you know and love, as well as the bonus Rime Age that appeared on Nintendo’s handheld. What the press release that revealed all this information lacked, however, was a price. We’ve contacted Hoplite to try and discern this crucial piece of information. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out. Original source: www.joystiq.com , delivered by rss-farm.ru

Windows 7 RC users will be able to install Windows 7 Upgrade discs

Saturday, July 11th, 2009 5 views

Today’s the last day to pre-order Windows 7 Upgrade discs for half off . But Microsoft almost always offers upgrade discs for existing Windows users for a lower cost than the full install discs. So even if you don’t get your order in today, you can probably save a few bucks by ordering Windows 7 Upgrade instead of the full version. The question is: will you be able to install it? Microsoft has already stated that Windows Vista and Windows XP users would be able to use the upgrade discs. But this week the company also confirmed that those of you who have been using Windows 7 RC will also be able to upgrade to Windows 7 final using the upgrade discs. There is a catch. While the Windows 7 installer won’t overwrite your files, it will copy all of your existing data to a folder labeled WINDOWS.OLD, which means that you won’t be able to run most applications without reinstalling them. But at least you won’t lose your documents in the upgrade process

How to add Hulu Desktop icon to Windows Media Center

Hulu Desktop is a pretty nifty application that lets you find and watch Hulu video content on a home theater PC using a media center remote control without a keyboard. But if you already have a home theater PC connected to your TV, you may want to integrate Hulu Desktop with your other media center software. Here’s a little trick that will add a Hulu icon to Windows Vista Media Center that makes it easy to launch Hulu Desktop. When you close the application, you’ll also be returned to Windows Media Center. Basically what you need to do is download and install Chad Dyess’ modified Media Center Launcher Configuration Utility .

3DSee is 3D modeling made easy on the web

Saturday, July 11th, 2009 0 views

3DSee is a way to generate 3D models of real-life objects without doing a ton of complex drawing and tracing. You just need to take several digital photos of the object, and 3DSee can generate a greyscale “bump map” that it can use to render your object in three dimensions. Right now you can just get a low-res model textured from one of your images, but the software actually creates a higher-quality fully-textured model that might be available for download in the future. 3DSee’s “coming soon” features look pretty impressive. In addition to high-def mesh models, the site also plans to support Second Life output files. If I’m reading that correctly, it would definitely save Second Life users a lot of time and trouble when it comes to getting their favorite real-life objects into the game as models
