Fight Night Round 4 knocks out its UK chart competitors

So it turns out Fight Night Round 4 is a real hit over in the UK. A real hit . That’s a joke. What isn’t a joke is that the game is enjoying a second week at the number one spot, despite competition from Tiger Woods Pro Tour 10 , which debuted at number 2. We say “competition,” but no matter which one you buy the money’s still going in EA’s pocket — something that doesn’t happen when you buy Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen , which surged from number 6 to number 3 this week. The bundling of Wii MotionPlus with Tiger Woods doesn’t seem to have impacted too much on sales, as it debuted at number 4 in the Wii charts

Grand Slam Tennis — which is also bundled with MotionPlus — swapped places with EA Sports Active , jumping from number 3 to number 2. None of which seem to be able to get close to that other Wii peripheral, Wii Fit , which sits comfortably at the top of the Wii chart, as usual. Native Video and Audio dropped from HTML 5 spec

Monday, July 6th, 2009 0 views

The Editor of the HTML 5 specification has announced that it has dropped native video and audio support from the spec. Despite efforts from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the main international standards organisation for the World Wide Web, it’s looking like HTML 5 will not specify a video and audio codec in the specification for using with the new and tags. ” There is no suitable codec that all vendors are willing to implement and ship, ” wrote Ian Hickson , Editor of the HTML 5 specification for W3C, in an email. The original draft specification for HTML 5 included and tags that would enable browsers to natively support this content without needing to install separate plug-ins. Unfortunately though, the major browser makers have not agreed on which codecs should be supported by the new HTML spec. The only decision, then, was for W3C to drop the feature. ” I have therefore removed the two subsections in the HTML 5 spec in which codecs would have been required, and have instead left the matter undefined, as has in the past been done with other features like and image formats, and plugin APIs, or Web fonts and font formats, ” Hickson continued. The disagreement is over the use of the open source Ogg Vorbis codec for audio and Ogg Theora for video, which are both license-free unlike the MP3 and H.264 formats also under consideration.

Microsoft will release Windows 7 to manufacturing next week if several independent reports are to be believed. Microsoft will release the final build of Windows 7 to manufacturing next week if several independent reports are to be believed. According to GeekSmack , Wzor and Neowin , Microsoft insiders have said that the RTM version of Microsoft’s latest operating system will arrive on 13th July. This date coincides with the start of Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference, held in New Orleans, and would be a fitting event to announce the good news. Typically, once Microsoft drops the RTM build, it’s made available on MSDN, TechNet and a number of other partner connections. This enables developers and hardware vendors to ensure that hardware-related bugs are ironed out of device drivers. It’s also generally considered to be the final build ahead of General Availability, which is scheduled for 22nd October, providing there aren’t any show-stopper bugs found in the interim.
