Peter Moore on the state of EA Sports, motion control

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 8 views

Gamasutra has published a very lengthy interview with EA Sports guru Peter Moore , in which he discusses the current plans of the label and the strategies behind sports game development and publishing. Perhaps most interesting are Moore’s thoughts on the new motion control technology revealed by Sony and Microsoft during E3. Moore speaks about the possibilities of the new motion controllers, saying they will impact EA Sports “very positively.” Moore says that the company is already making plans to bring its “licensed product” and its “fitness product” to these new interfaces. Specifically, Moore imagines how a game like Fight Night or the upcoming EA Sports MMA would work with them, saying, “if it were in a first-person mode it would be very very cool.” Agreed. He calls the new motion controllers a “huge opportunity.” Other topics in the interview range from the possibilities for smaller, regional titles (like cricket), the future of the Madden series and how EA plans to keep EA Sports Active … um … active in consumers’ minds

Nortel sells mobile comms tech

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 1 views

Nortel is hoping that the $650 million cash injection from the sale of its wireless divisions to Nokia Siemens will help it return from Chapter 11. The ailing network giant Nortel continues its struggle to survive, this time by raising money from the sale of its wireless know-how to Nokia Siemens Networks. As reported over on CNet , the company – which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection proceedings back in January of this year – is looking to offload its mobile ‘phone oriented CDMA and 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies to Nokia Siemens Networks, one of the largest providers of mobile infrastructure technologies in the world. Nokia Siemens’ chief executive officer, Simon Beresford-Wylie, said in a statement that the deal would provide “ an important strategic opportunity for Nokia Siemens Networks to strengthen its position in two keys areas, North America and LTE, at a price that makes good economic sense. ” The deal will see Nortel getting a $650 million (?394 million) cash injection which it desperately needs in order to stay afloat. In turn, Nokia Siemens gets rights to the CDMA and LTE technology Nortel has spent so many years developing. The news for workers in these parts of Nortel is reassuring: Nokia Siemens has agreed to take on around 2,500 employees – representing a “ significant portion ” of the workforce in this part of Nortel – across the US, Canada, Mexico, and China. Nortel’s chief executive Mike Zafirovski claimed this represented the company’s hope to “ preserve employment to the greatest extent possible. ” The move is likely to be the start of a range of sell-offs for the company as Nortel looks to dig itself out of a financial hole before the provisions of its Chapter 11 protection expire.

Guitar Hero 5 box art revealed, includes no guitars

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 1 views

It’s not like the previous Guitar Hero boxes set the world on fire, but the recently revealed box art for Guitar Hero 5 is … well it’s definitely different. At least the previous boxes had, you know, guitars on them. As one Joystiq blogger put it, the Guitar Hero 5 art looks more suited to an expansion or a DLC voucher than it does to a full release. Still, we suppose we can appreciate the backstage insider appeal it exudes. Besides, it’s not like there are many people left that are unfamiliar with the title at this point. See the full monty after the break. Original source: www.joystiq.com , delivered by rss-farm.ru
