Microsoft unveiled the games-on-demand service at E3 2009, though it was a bit overshadowed by Natal. Microsoft is getting ready to launch the new games-on-demand service for the Xbox 360, the first step of which has been to rebrand the existing Xbox Originals service on the official Xbox.com website. The games-on-demand service will let Xbox 360 gamers download full Xbox 360 titles to their hard drives for a fee and was unveiled at E3 2009 - though the announcement was a bit overshadowed by Microsoft’s Project Natal. The new service has incorporated the existing Xbox Originals service too, which let gamers download titles from the previous generation. Set to be fully unveiled in August, presumably in time for GamesCom, the launch line-up will include some of the most popular Xbox 360 titles of recent years, including BioShock , Assassin’s Creed and Lego Star Wars .

We still haven’t had any confirmation of a Portal sequel, other than, you know, designer Kim Swift and Valve’s lead marketing director, Doug Lombardi mentioning that the game is probably coming. Now internet songster and Portal theme — “Still Alive” — composer Jonathan Coulton has chimed in as well. We recently interviewed Coulton about his upcoming “Best. Concert. Ever.” CD & DVD set (look for the full interview soon where we’ll be giving a copy away), and the first thing we asked him about was how his song for Portal 2 was coming along. “I haven’t started it yet. I honestly don’t know … I haven’t spoken to them in a long time about it, so I don’t know much at all about their plans for Portal 2 and what they’re thinking of doing,” he told us.

Maybe you noticed this ages ago, but the thought just occurred to me (and most of the rest of our crew after I pinged the list) this afternoon. Why is it that every web browser has a round icon/logo? Don’t get me wrong - we kicked it around on the list and there’s the obvious roundness in the phrase World Wide Web. But is there any other sector where the iconography is this uniform? Netscape used to have a big, boxy icon, but even that vanished as time went by. With the digging I did this afternoon, I only found one non-round icon: Midori (right). And even it has kind of a squashed-but-still-round look to it

We can’t be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we’ll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix’s Watch Instantly, and Blu-ray each week. Recommendation of the Week: Donkey Punch (PSN: $5.99 HD and $3.99 SD to rent, $19.99 HD and $14.99 SD to own): Despite the title, Donkey Punch isn’t a zany college comedy. It’s a taut thriller that takes place in the confines of a luxury yacht at sea, and the titular term plays a big part in making everything unravel. It was shot for less than a million dollars in three weeks, yet still manages to look like a slick Hollywood film. Great soundtrack, terrific performances from a cast of unknowns, and you’ve got the perfect summer accompaniment
