Metal Gear Solid Rising getting re-done graphics engine

Saturday, June 13th, 2009 6 views

Like a case of bad allergies, Metal Gear Solid 4 ’s graphics left us rubbing our eyes. That said, when it comes to developing the recently unveiled Metal Gear Solid Rising , the latest sequel’s eye candy is not nearly sweet enough . According to Kojima Productions assistant producer Sean Eyestone, the team is remaking Rising ’s engine “from scratch” to make it look better than MGS4 . Speaking during a recent Kojima Productions podcast , Eyestone describes the multiplatform project as “a big project like Metal Gear Solid 4 ,” adding that the team “team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform.” Let’s just hope our meager eyes can take it. Video: Scratch: The Ultimate DJ shows off their deck, new website

The battle of the DJ games will be coming to a head soon, reminding of us when Armageddon went up against Deep Impact . But who’s going to mix it up and come out on top here? Scratch: The Ultimate DJ just released a video that shows off some of the tech (and DJ know-how) that went into the Scratch Deck, and you can see how it stacks up against DJ Hero’s controller . Watch the video above and take a trip on their extremely urban adventure-themed website for more information. We like the addition of the separate drum pad to their deck, which DJ Hero has on the turntable with two less buttons. It’s just that Scratch’s characters look like they need to eat a sandwich or two . Numark calls the turntable the “first and only legitimate DJ controller for video gamers.” Zing! We’re waiting to reserve judgement on these two until we can play them side by side, but the video above gives us a bit more confidence in Scratch . Now let’s just see some more gameplay. Opera says IE removal "not enough"

Not surprisingly, Opera has said that Microsoft’s offer to completely remove Internet Explorer from Windows 7 was not enough to restore competition. Not surprisingly, Opera has said that Microsoft’s offer to completely remove Internet Explorer from Windows 7 was not enough to restore competition. “ I don’t think what Microsoft announced is going to restore competition, ” said Hakon Wium Lie, Opera’s Chief Technology Officer . “ I don’t think it’s going to be enough, I don’t think it will get them off the hook. ” Microsoft’s announcement came shortly before the European Commission is due to make a decision on antitrust charges brought against the software giant in January. The complaint claimed that Microsoft abuses its dominant position by bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, therefore shielding it from head-to-head competition with rivals such as Firefox and Opera. The software giant has claimed in the past that Internet Explorer was a fundamental part of the operating system and with Windows 7 it’s clearly not given Microsoft’s proposal to remove IE from European editions of the new OS. However, since Microsoft said it has no plans to invest time and money into creating browser-less versions of Windows Vista and Windows XP because they’re soon to disappear from the market, it could be that code changes made in Windows 7 (in light of the EU’s charges) mean that it’s no longer required. If Microsoft’s proposal does go through, it will break Windows 7 because, according to Microsoft, you will no longer be able to upgrade from a previous version of Windows and keep all of your settings – including your browser of choice even if it isn’t Internet Explorer.
