Christian bloggers protesting fake EA protest

Friday, June 12th, 2009 0 views

After staging a protest/publicity stunt outside of E3 last week against upcoming EA game Dante’s Inferno , the company is catching heat from Christian bloggers. InsideCatholic says on its website, “It’s been clear for a while now that the entertainment industry views Christians on the whole as priggish, thin-skinned fun-killers,” further wondering if “anyone at EA even read the Inferno .” Catholic Video Gamers fires an even more direct shot at EA’s Dante’s Inferno , saying, “Instead of engaging in a shamelessly anti-Christian stunt to promote your poor excuse of a product, maybe you ought to work on making this game, you know, something better than a blatant God of War rip-off.” Wait, isn’t Christianity all about forgiving? Oh well! Hopefully EA will think twice next time it decides to fake a protest and instead choose protesters without any major religious affiliation. Neversoft would like to add turntable support to Guitar Hero

Friday, June 12th, 2009 0 views

During E3 , we got to check out the folks from FreeStyleGames playing DJ Hero — Activision’s upcoming rhythm/music game — using blasphemous guitar controllers in-tandem with the ubiquitous plastic turntable (seen above). While Activision is still keeping mum on whether or not the ability to use guitars in all tracks of the game (none the less vocals) will be shipping with DJ Hero , apparently the folks working on the game think including their turntable in Guitar Hero titles “Sounds like a great idea!” In fact, both the DJ Hero team and Neversoft (developers of the Guitar Hero franchise) seem open to the idea of cross-game instrument implementation (say that three times fast). GH director Brian Bright told Eurogamer , “We would love to integrate in the future,” speaking to the cross-franchise possibilities with each game’s respective peripheral. So if we can use a turntable, have a group of folks on various instruments, and get someone spitting hot fire into a mic, what’s the point of Def Jam Rapstar again? Hands-on: RUSE (and its steep learning curve)

Friday, June 12th, 2009 0 views

RUSE is shaping up to become a nice addition to PC gaming, and also to the vacant market of real-time strategy games on consoles. Halo Wars and Red Alert have pretty much been the only standouts, but where’s the real depth and longevity of a title like StarCraft ? Ubisoft’s RUSE is hoping to fill that gap, and based on the time we spent with it recently, it may be just the thing. That is if it’d stop with the gimmicks like showing it at E3 on a Microsoft Surface table and just give us the console goods. Not all of us have a spare $15,000 sitting around. Head beyond the break to see a (very, very) long demo from the Tunisia setting in RUSE , and to read our thoughts about it. It’s not something you can pick up and learn in a scant few seconds, but it offers you enough to keep coming back to it. Find out why inside.

Go to have same battery life as standard PSP

Friday, June 12th, 2009 0 views

You’d think that by removing the battery-draining UMD drive, the new PSP Go would have an improved battery life over its predecessors. That doesn’t appear to be the case, as the European PlayStation.Blog notes “the battery life is equivalent with the current models.” According to the site, that means “approximately 3 to 6 hours for gameplay and approximately 3 to 5 hours for playing back videos.” The smaller system obviously contains a smaller battery, but we’re still surprised Sony hasn’t managed to engineer better battery tech for the upcoming handheld. Seems like those that want the most juice out of a PSP will want to stick with the 2000 series, equipped with the extended life battery .
