Just Cause 2 looks amazing in developer walkthrough video

Monday, June 8th, 2009 1 views

Now you can see why our preview of Just Caust 2 was so glowing … it has 62% more chutes! Yes, it looks this good. Lead game designer Peter Johansson from Avalanche Studios takes us through the game with his sexy accent, and base jumping / parachuting alone looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Seriously, why has no one developed a skydiving game? (Mention Go! Sports Skydiving and we’ll hurt you.) Watch the entire video above (it’s long) and you’ll see why Spider-Man has nothing on Rico. After all, he didn’t carry a gun. The original Just Cause was a slightly buggy mess that was caught up in the changeover from the Xbox to the Xbox 360, although it featured some enjoyable and innovative gameplay. This sequel looks much, much better and we’ll be keeping our eyes open for more info before it comes out in 2010. Original source: www.joystiq.com , delivered by rss-farm.ru

New SCEE head thinks Wii owners will eventually ‘upgrade’ to PS3

Monday, June 8th, 2009 0 views

The new president of SCEE, Andrew House, isn’t wasting any time taking over the reins from David Reeves and causing a stir. After having been in his new office for only a little over a month , House is already making daring statements, telling Edge-Online that he believes Wii owners will eventually ‘upgrade’ to PS3. His logic is based off prior figures that pit the lifecycle of PS2 against that of N64 (he probably meant GameCube), citing Nintendo’s console as the “entry level gaming device” and that data suggested consumers planned to “upgrade to a more powerful machine [read: PS2] later in the lifecycle when the price point was right for them.” That’s a rather interesting thing to say because, frankly, for most people, the price of the PlayStation 3 isn’t anywhere near right just yet. Of course, House’s scope is for the long-term and about inevitable future price cuts, but there’s one thing he forgot to factor in: Microsoft. What’s stopping people from upgrading to the Xbox 360, especially since Microsoft has drastically taken up a bigger share of the market since the last generation? Freescale unveils smartbook concepts

Monday, June 8th, 2009 2 views

Freescale’s concept designs - developed by SCAD - represent the company’s vision of future implementations of its ARM processors. Freescale Semiconductor – one of the companies currently trying to get the RISC-based ARM processor into the netbook market – has released some concept designs for products it describes as “ smartbooks .” As reported by SlashGear , the designs – which are all in the pre-prototype “ artistic render ” stage – are the work of industrial design outfit the Savannah College of Art and Design. While some of the designs – such as the modular netbook – are riffing on a fairly standard theme, many of the designs represent something quite new into the emerging market of smartbooks: devices which bridge the gap between smartphones and netbooks. First up is an oversized Mobile Internet Device – pictured – which features an interesting take on the fold-out keyboard. Clearly not designed for major text entry on the go, it remains to be seen whether the strange ear-like configuration would offer anything over and above the more traditional hardware keyboard which slides out of the base of the unit. The company has also put together a leather-clad clamshell design for the fashion conscious, along with a rather bizarre tablet-stroke-tupperware-box design with a vertical screen which, to be quite honest, looks more cumbersome than anything. Perhaps the most interesting – and potentially the most useful – is a smartbook design which folds out to reveal a removable wireless keyboard and mouse, allowing the screen portion of the unit to be propped up and operated as if it were a desktop computer.
