25 Years of Tetris: Time Waster Retrospective

Saturday, June 6th, 2009 4 views

Today is a historic day. Not only is it the 65th anniversary of D-Day (and my grandfather, a US Naval Captain was there), It is the 25th anniversary of the greatest puzzle game of all time: Tetris . In honor of Alexey Pajitnov’s awesome creation, I’ve tracked down some awesome ways to play Tetris on your PC or Mac — for free. Tetris 1989 (www.tetrisfriends.com) — Although Tetris might have debuted in June of 1986, most of us were first introduced to this addictive puzzler in 1989 on a green and yellow tinged screen. As the pack-in game with the original Game Boy, Tetris was catapulted to a whole new audience of fans. Although we had Tetris (and Dr. Mario) for our NES, it wasn’t until I got a Game Boy for Christmas in 1991 (third grade, baby!) that I really, really became Tetris-obsessed. You can revisit that nostalgia on your web browser in this Flash-based port, provided by Tetrisfriends.com (the official website for the Tetris.com rights holders). The original game music is even included! Tetrisfriends.com has a lot of other variations too, but the best, by far is Tetris 1989.

Twitter finally verifies verified accounts rumor

Saturday, June 6th, 2009 1 views

In response to a lawsuit by famed baseball manager Tony LaRussa, Twitter has decided to speed up the process of launching those verified accounts we’ve been hearing buzz about for the past few months. In a post on the Twitter blog , Biz Stone asserts that while there’s no way Twitter’s going to pay off LaRussa after their support team got rid of the impostor, they’re going to keep this kind of thing from happening in the future by adding a special badge to the accounts of notable people whose identities they can verify. Because of the resources required, this is going to roll out slowly, starting with “public officials, public agencies, famous artists, athletes, and other well known individuals at risk of impersonation.” Businesses won’t be included in the initial test. There’s no launch date specified yet, but Twitter has begun to answer the sticky question of how they plan to verify the accounts. Apparently, a link to a Twitter account from the celebrity’s official website is going to do the trick. Original source: www.pheedcontent.com , delivered by rss-farm.ru

Video comparison: ‘Trico’ leak and ‘The Last Guardian’ debut

Saturday, June 6th, 2009 2 views

When we first saw the year-old leaked footage for Team ICO’s third game – then known only as “Trico” – we had only one thought: we really want a kitty dragon. Okay, fine. We had two thoughts. First: we really want a kitty dragon; and second: we wonder what the game looks like now. Lucky for us, Sony’s E3 keynote answered the latter, with a fresh dose of video footage of the game, newly dubbed The Last Guardian . Here’s the thing though: the first three and a half minutes of the trailer were shot-for-shot identical to the leak, with obvious visual enhancements and that got us thinking: a video comparison! Our very own Richard Mitchell painstakingly stitched the two videos together above for your enjoyment. On the left: The Last Guardian
